What is your MCAT percentile?

Your MCAT percentile is the share of exam results at or below your score. A 510 is the 79th percentile in the current AAMC table.

It compares exam performance; it is not a percentage of questions correct or your chance of admission.

Put your score in perspective.

A percentile adds context. These distinctions help you use it well.

Raw score, scaled score, percentile.

A raw score is a count of correct answers. AAMC equates each exam form to produce section scores from 118 to 132. Those four scores add to a total from 472 to 528.

A percentile then places that scaled score in the comparison group. Because the raw-to-scaled conversion varies by exam form, there is no universal raw-score percentile calculator.

How AAMC scores the MCAT

The same score can tell a different story.

A 128 is the 90th percentile in CARS and the 76th in Psych/Soc. Each section has a different distribution, so compare like with like. Your overall percentile comes from your total score, not the average of your section percentiles.

MCAT percentile questions, answered.

What percentile is a 500, 510, 515, or 520 MCAT score?

In the AAMC table effective May 1, 2026–April 30, 2027, a 500 is the 48th percentile, a 510 is the 79th, a 515 is the 91st, and a 520 is the 97th. These ranks compare results from exams taken in 2023–2025.

Can I convert a raw MCAT score to a percentile?

A raw score counts correct answers. AAMC converts it to a scaled section score using a conversion specific to the exam form. There is no universal raw-score conversion. Use your reported scaled score here: 472–528 for the total or 118–132 for a section.

What MCAT score reaches the 90th percentile?

A total score of 515 is the lowest score reaching at least the 90th percentile in the 2026–2027 table; its reported rank is 91. For sections, the thresholds are 129 in Chem/Phys, 128 in CARS, 129 in Bio/Biochem, and 130 in Psych/Soc.

Why do the same section scores have different percentiles?

Each section has its own score distribution. For example, a 128 is the 85th percentile in Chem/Phys, 90th in CARS, 84th in Bio/Biochem, and 76th in Psych/Soc. Add the four scaled scores to find a total, then look up that total. Do not average the section percentiles.

Does the 100th percentile mean a perfect MCAT score?

No. AAMC reports whole-number percentile ranks. In this table, scores from 525 through 528 share a reported rank of 100. Only 528 is the highest possible total score. A reported 100 does not mean that no one scored higher.

How often do MCAT percentile ranks change?

AAMC updates percentile ranks each May 1 using the three most recent testing years. The current table is effective May 1, 2026–April 30, 2027. Your scaled score stays the same when the comparison table changes.

Is my MCAT percentile my chance of getting into medical school?

No. A percentile describes how an exam score compares with other exam results. It is not an admission probability, a percentage of questions correct, or a school-specific cutoff. Use it alongside a school’s published requirements and the rest of your application.
